Draft

Teacher calls out students name and student awakes from her sleep on the desk. When she realises she fell asleep in school her cheeks become red and the student apologises. Her leg begins to bounce as she feels the stares of her classmates grow and their whispers become louder. A fisheye lens is used on classmates faces to amplify her social anxiety. Classmates voices become distorted and indistinguishable. The camera zooms into her face as she becomes more distressed and her breathing starts to increase. We also hear the beating of her heart increase accompanied by ominous non-diegetic music. We see mushrooms begin to rip through her skin and she tries to cover them with her sleeves from her perspective. She grabs her bag and runs out of class, it then cuts to the bathroom where she splashes her face with water. When she looks into the mirror, the lighting switches to red as she sees her body being consumed by mushrooms. She tries closing her eyes but the pain becomes excruciatingly real until someone walks in the bathroom. She grabs her bag and walks out of the door. The door cuts to another door (scene 2) where the bell goes and students rush through the corridor for lunchtime. As her friends gather outside, she tries to socialise with them but finds herself being ignored. A cloud of grey comes over and the saturation is decreased as she finds herself invisible to her friends. Their voices become muffled, distorted, and distant and the mushrooms start to rip through her skin again. She decides she's had enough and tries to rip them out of her skin but as she screams in agony all that is heard is white noise. The scene cuts to black but the white noise continues...

Scene 1

INT.  Bedroom

Black screen fades into red lit room where we see an aerial view of a body on a bed in the fetal position. Cuts to close-up shot of mushrooms growing out of her skin in stop motion. We hear a scraping, wet, crunching noise as the mushrooms gradually grow out her body. Cuts to hand twitching. Cuts back to aerial view of body where the camera zooms into the body and through her eye until the camera turns to black again.

INT. Classroom

Students voices slowly fade in simultaneously with the picture where we see a student asleep on the desk. The student has doodles on their hands and an empty book in front of them. The Teacher calls out:

TEACHER
*name*

Student lifts up their head off of the desk with immediate embarrassment.

TEACHER
Up all night on the Snapchats were we?

STUDENT
Sorry, I-

The student pauses as she feels the stares of her classmates grow. Whispers become deafening as they worm into her mind and become distorted and indistinguishable. We hear her heart rate begin to increase. A fisheye lens is used on the students faces to amplify her anxiety. We also hear her breathing increase. She places her head in her hands in an attempt to block the noise out but it grows louder. She grabs her bag and runs out of the classroom. As the door slams, the noise stops and the students resume back to normal.

EXT. Classroom

Student is seen running through the corridor. Unsettling intense non diegetic music is played as she runs through the college until she reaches the bathroom. Music stops.

INT. Bathroom

She splashes her face with water and looks up into the mirror. When she looks up the lighting turns red. Non diegetic screeching violin sound plays as mushrooms begin to pierce through her skin. She starts scratching at her skin trying to rip them out. Screams of agony are heard from outside the bathroom as she attempts to close her eyes but the pain becomes excruciating. A classmate walks into the bathroom and the lighting resumes and the mushrooms disappear.
